Your smile can make or break almost any situation. A beautiful, radiant smile indicates a devotion to personal hygiene and professionalism. So few of us are born with perfect teeth, and years of abuse from foods, drinks, and environmental factors can leave us feeling self-conscious and insecure with our smiles. Procedures that can restore luster and brilliance to your teeth include:

  • Tooth whitening to remove stains and discolorations in your teeth, restoring your natural, bright smile
  • Porcelain veneers to correct any number of aesthetic issues from discoloration, to crooked or gapped teeth.
  • Gum recontouring to improve the appearance of your gums
  • Smile makeover to improve every aspect of the appearance of your smile

You cannot over estimate the importance of a perfect smile.<

Teeth Whitening

There are many products and techniques available for patients who want to achieve a brighter smile, and with so many options available, it can be difficult to choose the method that is right for you. The best way to begin any teeth-whitening regimen is to schedule an appointment and talk to your doctor about the differences between in-office professional whitening and at-home whitening.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

Tray Whitening

Tray bleaching is a type of professional whitening that uses custom-made trays and whitening gel only available through your dentist. The whitening gel is placed in custom-fitted trays that fit perfectly over your teeth. As the peroxide in the gel breaks down, hydroxyradicals help whiten stained teeth. Unlike strips, this process whitens all your natural teeth and may contain ingredients intended to provide maximum comfort. At-home professional tray whitening generally takes ten to 14 days, although you may notice results in as little as three to five days.

Paint-On Teeth Whiteners

There are many over-the-counter teeth whitening options, and one type of readily accessible whitening products is commonly referred to as a “paint-on” teeth whitener. Paint-on whiteners can be purchased over-the-counter and generally are less expensive and less effective than whitening strips or professional options. Paint-on teeth whiteners consist of a gel that is applied to the tooth using a small brush. Paint-on whitening gel hardens into a film that coats the teeth, and dissolves in the mouth. As with any teeth-whitening regimen, it is wise to consult with a dental professional before use.

Teeth-Whitening Strips

Teeth-whitening strips are thin, flexible plastic (polyethylene) strips with a thin film of hydrogen peroxide on one side. Whitening strip kits come with two types of strips: strips for the upper teeth and strips for the lower teeth. The whitening agent is applied by placing the strips across your teeth and gently pressing the strips to ensure contact with all your teeth. Teeth-whitening strips are typically worn for 30 minutes a day, twice a day. The duration of treatment will vary.

Whitening Toothpaste and Mouthwash

The least expensive options are whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes. Designed to have “whitening” capabilities, toothpastes and mouthwashes work to remove surface stains using mild abrasives. However, unlike the materials used in professional whitening procedures, these products do not lighten the actual color shade of the tooth. Whitening toothpastes affect surface stains and will mildly lighten your teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

You no longer need to hide your smile because of gaps, chips, stains, or misshapen teeth. With veneers, you can easily correct your teeth’s imperfections to help you have a more confident, beautiful smile. Veneers are natural in appearance and are a perfect option for patients wanting to make minor adjustments to the look and feel of their smile.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials such as porcelain. They are designed to cover the front side of your teeth. To prepare for veneers, your doctor will create a unique model of your teeth. This model is sent to a dental technician who creates your veneers. Before placing your new veneer, your doctor may need to conservatively prepare your tooth to achieve the desired aesthetic result.

When your veneers are placed, you’ll be pleased to see that they look like your natural teeth. While veneers are stain-resistant, your doctor may recommend that you avoid coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco to maintain the beauty of your new smile.

Gum Recontouring

Individuals with a gummy smile or those with receding gums can now enhance their smiles with a safe, pain-free gum recontouring procedure. With the help of the Hoya Con Bio laser, Dr. Firouzi can remove excess gum tissue to reduce your gummy smile or graft gum tissue to your receding gums to restore the natural beauty of your smile.

Reducing your Gummy Smile

Many individuals with a gummy smile are under the assumption that they have abnormally small teeth. This is very rarely the case. Most gummy smiles are the result of overdeveloped gum tissue or gum tissue that has not receded properly. This is good news in many ways, because removing excess gum tissue is a fairly simple procedure. Dr. Firouzi will use the Hoya Con Bio laser to remove this unwanted tissue in one dental visit, redesigning your smile line to reveal more of your teeth and less of your gums.

In some gummy smile cases, removal of bone tissue may be necessary. Again, Dr. Firouzi can use laser technology to safely remove any overdeveloped bone tissue to redesign your smile line.

Gum Grafts and Transplants

Receding gums can be the result of many things. Aging, trauma, gum disease, even aggressive brushing can lead to receding gums. Your teeth need to be protected by your gums in order to avoid tooth sensitivity and to protect the roots from decay. Therefore, gum grafts are often necessary in order to maintain good oral health, not just to treat a cosmetic concern.

Gum grafting procedures are usually more involved than gum removal procedures. Muscles that pull at the affected gum area are often part of the reason why the gums have receded. It is sometimes necessary to modify these muscles in order to prevent them from causing further damage.

In both gum reduction and gum grafting, local anesthesia will be used to eliminate pain. Among the many advantages to laser technology is its ability to minimize infection risk, as well as minimize the necessity of sutures. Many of our gum recontouring procedures require no stitches whatsoever.

Smile Makeover

A smile makeover is an elective process that utilizes several cosmetic dentistry procedures to improve or enhance the entirety of your smile. We believe everyone deserves to have a confident, beautiful smile. If chipped, cracked, missing, or discolored teeth are keeping you from smiling with confidence, a smile makeover may be the solution for you.

A suitable candidate for a smile makeover must have no serious pre-existing oral health issues such as gum disease or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). If you have any oral health issues, they must be treated before beginning your smile makeover.

Dr. Firouzi offers a complimentary initial consultation to all of his prospective smile makeover patients. During this consultation, he will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and jaw. You will then discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations for the procedure. Dr. Firouzi will then be able to advise you as to which cosmetic dentistry procedures would be best for you, taking into account your skin tone, hair color, facial structure and any other aesthetic considerations.

Dr. Firouzi is one of the few cosmetic dentists who will fit you with temporaries so you can get a feel for what your final treatment will look like. This tends to give you a much more accurate idea of what to expect than what a computer-generated image can provide.
